Psalm 18:16-19

“He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he pulled me out of deep water. He rescued me from my powerful enemy and from those who hated me, for they were too strong for me. They confronted me in the day of my calamity, but the Lord was my support. He brought me out to a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.” – Psalm 18:16-19

God, You have surely rescued me from myself.  From choices I made when I thought I knew what was best for me.  From the enemy who had ahold of me when I didn’t even realize it.  He was very sly to sneak in and set up shop in my life when I was distracted and not guarding my heart or mind or choices.

What he offered was attractive and seemed fun.  He played into my weaknesses including my love of self, indulgence, and comfort.  Before I knew it, he had me locked in a small, cramped cell, laughing at the pain he caused me through the bait I took.

But little did he know, You had your loving eyes set on me the whole time.  All his scheming and conniving, wanting nothing but pain and destruction for me would soon be turned into the very tools You would use for my good and Your glory.

When You reached down to rescue me from the dark recesses of his prison, it was easy for You as You are infinitely more powerful than he will ever be. When You brought me out of the darkness, You didn’t scold me or make me feel guilty.  You didn’t hand me a bill of rescue and explain how I now needed to pay it back.  No, You loved me, just as You always have, just as You always will.  You placed me in a beautiful life, showered me with gifts I don’t deserve, and continue to blow my mind with Your goodness every day.

I don’t always understand how it’s possible for You to be as good as You are, but I’m so thankful. Amen.
